October 31 Dear Christian,I will send you the pictures zipped to your email I think it’s easier to see the explanations here. First I tried to solve my structure The vertical structure consists of a central core and four sub-cores The units/boxes are divided into 4 categories: A) the ones directly attached to 4 sub-cores. with the largest area of contace with the sub-cores B) the ones attached to 4 sub cores, with a smaller area of contact C) the ones attached to A or B , with some support from the horizontal structure which will appear later…. D) the ones attached to both central core and sub-cores These four categorys generates 3 different ways of attaching The horizontal structures are as shown below which has the same language as the organization of boxed in elevation. The cross serve as bracing Questions: 1.How do we know the joints can work? in this case can stand the weight of the concrete box if it is not 1:1? but 1:1 is also unrealistic… 2. I do not think the vertical sub-cores can withstand the weight of all the boxes. does it have something to do with the foundation ?
for the models the mould which you have seen before, the plane should have no problem in casting I just used it as a trial… but unfortunately I broke it after i took it out, but the formwork can be used again after moderate amendment…and it has been proven that scotch tape can facilitate the taking out of the model. since the other mold got very thin gap, the proportion of water increases from plaster:water= 1:1.3 to plaster:water=1:1.8, but the problem is I left it for 3 days, after I open it it is still wet…and soft…when i tried to take out the inner part. the top part breaks. I have just met Janet today and asked where to order cement…I will try to do with cement and sand for the next few days hopefully with a smaller scale. Unfortunately Janet and I are trying out different thing I think so we have to do separate experiment….Now the scale is 1:50, in which the wall is too thin to reflect the strength of concrete More physical model coming soon. laser cut tomorrow for larger scale. Questions: 1.should I focus on methods of casting or anything more? since I am also interested in the texture and color the concrete can produce… 2. just concern about… what if it’s failure all the way …?lol TrackbacksThe trackback URL for this entry is: http://twinsis328.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E7460A8761D0016E!4539.trak Weblogs that reference this entry
